Rigid-body Physics

چکیده

These course notes will explain in details the physics behind rigid-body motion. Previously, we treated bodies as dimensionless “particles”. At time t, they existed in pointwise position x(t) with velocity v(t). Net force F(t) induced acceleration a(t), where F(t) = ma(t), with m as the mass of the particle. For readability, note that we mark vector quantities with bold notation: v ∈ R3 = (v1, v2, v3) , where v1 (for instance) in regular notation is a scalar. Also note that we use vectors as column vectors (and so transpose makes them row vectors) unless otherwise stated.

Mass Properties Identification of a Rigid Body Using Modal Analysis

In performing vibration analysis of the car engine on the engine support, it is necessary to know the mass properties of the engine including mass, position of the center of mass and mass inertia moments. Because the car engine has a relatively complex geometric shape and is composed of different components with different densities, determining its mass properties faces many challenges. There a...

Angular and linear acceleration in a rigid rolling body: students’ misconceptions

The purpose of this paper is to highlight students’ misconceptions of the kinematics of rolling movement and to show mechanisms that can help the student to overcome them. In particular, it focuses on the relationship between the angular and linear acceleration of a rigid body that moves without slipping. Frequently, physics books show particular examples of rolling movement instead of treating...

Nonlinear Optical Properties of Rigid Polyurethane Foam/SiO2 Nanocomposite

Polyurethane closed cell (PUCC)/SiO2 nanocomposites have been prepared by using in situ polymerization approach. The third-order optical nonlinearities of PUCC/SiO2 nanocomposites, dissolved in DMF are characterized by Z-scan technique at the measurement wavelength of 532 nm. The nonlinear refractive (NLR) indices and nonlinear absorption (NLA) coefficients of samples were calculated from close...

Interaction between a flexible filament and a downstream rigid body.

A filament flapping in the bow wake of a rigid body is considered in order to study the hydrodynamic interaction between flexible and rigid bodies in tandem arrangement. Both numerical and experimental methods are adopted to analyze the motion of the filament, and the drag force on both bodies is computed. It is shown that the results largely depend on the gap between the two objects and the Re...

Comparison of Anesthetic Techniques on Outcomes of Pediatric Rigid Bronchoscopy for Foreign Body Removal

Background Although both methods of spontaneous respiration and controlled ventilation during anesthesia are safe and effective for managing children with foreign body aspiration, there is no consensus from the literature as to which technique is optimal. This study aimed to determine the outcomes of anesthetic techniques in pediatric rigid bronchoscopy for foreign body removal. Materials and M...

A Face-Encoding Grammar for the Generation of Tetrahedral-Mesh Soft Bodies

Many of the most profound works of artificial life have emerged through the composition of physical simulation and generative representations. And yet, while physics engines are becoming more realistic, and generative representations are growing more powerful, they are still predominantly used to simulate rigid objects. The natural world and its organisms are, by contrast, soft, and full of muc...
